Saul Johnson (Managing Director)Saul trained as a medical doctor at the University of the Witwatersrand. He also has a Masters in epidemiology from Columbia University, New York and a Diploma in Tropical Medicine and Hygiene from the University of the Witwatersrand. Saul has worked in the fields of research, policy development and behaviour change communication. He was an advisor and research manager for the consortium that managed the Khomanani Campaign, the South African Government's AIDS mass media campaign between 2001 and 2006. He also assisted the Global Fund to monitor HIV programmes in Namibia, Swaziland, Angola, Malawi and Zimbabwe, among others. In the past he worked at the Perinatal HIV Research Unit at Chris Hani Baragwanath Hospital in Soweto, where he was involved in co-ordinating groundbreaking clinical trials to prevent mother-to-child transmission of HIV. Anthony Kinghorn (Director)Anthony trained as a medical doctor at the University of the Witwatersrand. He has a BA (Hons) in economics and politics from Oxford University and qualifications in public health and health economics from the Universities of the Witwatersrand and Cape Town. Anthony has worked as a researcher and consultant in a number of areas of health economics, public health, policy and management. A major focus of his work has been HIV/AIDS impacts and planning, and developing multi-sectoral approaches to the epidemic. He has worked extensively in the health and education sectors as well as in a range of other sectors. He has a particular interest in work to support orphans and vulnerable children. Nditsheni Mungoni (Director)Nditsheni has been the Project Manager for the DFID-funded OVC project in the Eastern Cape province of South Africa. He is currently the Project Leader for the PEPFAR- funded OVC programme in the Free State province. Nditsheni has an Honours degree in Development Sociology and Advanced Research Methods from the University of the Witwatersrand. He is currently completing a Masters degree in Public and Development Management with the University of the Witwatersrand Business School. He also is qualified as a Training Assessor through the Assessment College of South Africa. Jeff Tshabalala (Director)Jeff holds an MBA (Henley Management College, UK) in Strategy Change and Business Process Transformation and is a Doctor of Business Administration candidate with the University of Bradford. In addition he has qualifications and expertise in health economics, health sector reforms, strategic planning, health financing and public sector financial management. His work at HDA includes development and management of short-term technical assistance around HIV strategic planning, costing, resource tracking, financial and programme management and developing the capacity of consultants and country partners in the SADC region. Naomi Hill (Project Manager)Naomi is a social worker holding honours degrees in Criminology and Psychology from the University of Cape Town and UNISA. Her current fields of interest include community-based psychosocial interventions, child development and trauma. She has held senior progamme management positions in the development sector including Provincial Director of NICRO Gauteng (the National Institute of Crime Prevention and Reintegration of Offenders), Wellbeing of Children Programme Manager at the Nelson Mandela Children’s Fund and Victim Empowerment Programme Manager at the Centre for the Study of Violence and Reconciliation. Naomi has a strong interest in mental health and established a private clinical social work practice. At HDA, Naomi manages the AIDSTAR Orphans and Vulnerable Children Caregiver Support and Child Protection training project which works to stabilise vulnerable children’s environments through the psychosocial strengthening of their caregivers. Tendayi Moabi (Finance Manager)Tendayi is a qualified accountant with the Association of Accounting Technicians which she studied in the United Kingdom. In the past she has worked for Oxfam GB and ResourceAfrica as Finance and Administration Manager. She has also previously worked for ViroLocks as Senior Bookkeeper. Tendayi has over 9 years sound knowledge and experience of financial management, budgetary control, reporting including financial management training. She is a trained trainer on financial management for non-financial managers and has gained extensive experience in systems design, setting up of institutional policies and procedures, which include Administration and Logistics. Bakae Mekgwe (Office Manager)Bakae has a B.Admin degree from the University of the North, and is currently completing an Honours in Public Administration and Management with UNISA. Zosa De Sas Kropiwnicki (Research Manager)Dr. Zosa De Sas Kropiwnicki is the Research Manager for Health and Development Africa (Pty) Ltd. She was awarded a doctorate in International Development Studies at the University of Oxford, United Kingdom on the basis of her ethnographic research on adolescent female prostitution in Cape Town, South Africa. She also has two Masters degrees in Political Science and International Development Studies awarded at Rhodes University and the University of Leeds respectively. Zosa has designed and managed community-level, national and regional research projects to inform evidence-based policy and programming on issues pertaining to child abuse, exploitation and trafficking in South East Europe, Central Asia, Southern Africa and West Africa for international non-governmental organisations such as UNICEF, IOM, Save the Children UK, Save the Children Norway and USAID. In addition, Zosa has published book chapters, peer-reviewed journal articles and reports on a range of issues, including irregular migration, sex work, gender-based violence, and social exclusion. Sarah Murphy (Business Manager, Technical Support Facility Southern Africa)Sarah has a Masters degree (Honours) in International Public Policy from the Johns Hopkins School of Advanced International Studies and a BA in Anthropology. At HDA, Sarah is responsible for developing financial and contract management systems and donor reporting processes for the TSF and oversees programme operations for short-term technical assignments and capacity development activities throughout Southern Africa. Prior to joining HDA, Sarah worked for various international non-profit organisations in the fields of health and democracy and governance. Nirvana Pillay (Senior Consultant)Nirvana has a Bachelor of Science degree from the University of the Witwatersrand and a Masters in Sociology from the University of KwaZulu Natal. She has previously held academic appointments at the University of KwaZulu Natal and the University of the Witwatersrand. Her work experience includes training, curriculum and materials development and qualitative research. Jennifer Baumann (Senior Consultant)Jennifer has over thirteen years of experience in the health field, with expertise in managing health programmes, Monitoring & Evaluation of HIV/AIDS, coordination of partnerships and community mobilisation. She has a Masters Degree in Public and International Affairs specialising in Economic and Social Development from the University of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, USA. She also holds a BA in Social Work from the same university. Additional experience in the USA spans community organising and advocacy around food security and welfare reform. In addition to this, she has experience in development and social justice issues in Brazil and she is fluent in Portuguese. In the past five years her work has been concentrated in southern Africa in the following areas: Monitoring & Evaluation of HIV/AIDS programmes and Global Fund projects, proposal development and supporting national AIDS programs and other partners in the multi-sector response. Rita Muyambo (Team Leader)Rita holds a Masters in Business Leadership. She has more than 13 years experience in programme management of HIV/AIDS programmes in Southern Africa. She has expertise in the design, implementation and M&E of HIV/AIDS and Reproductive Health programmes. Her focus areas include organisational capacity assessments, capacity building, curriculum development, design and delivery of training in primary health care with special emphasis on mainstreaming Reproductive Health including STI, HIV/AIDS, OVC, monitoring and evaluation of programmes including behaviour change interventions. Margaret Roper (Team Leader)Margaret is currently reading Masters in Public and Development Management with the University of the Witwatersrand Business School. Margaret has undertaken numerous external evaluations and research projects in the fields of juvenile justice, youth-based crime prevention, social crime prevention, and community based crime prevention and in HIV/AIDS interventions (in particular prevention, awareness, home based care and capacity building programmes). She has developed a number of participatory evaluation toolkits, developed a monitoring and evaluation training programme for non-government organisations, and developed user-friendly evaluation systems for organisations. Her previous employment includes the Women's National Coalition, Business Against Crime, Secretariat for Safety and Security, South African Police Service, CSIR Crime Prevention Centre prior to undertaking contractual work through Inkanyezi Initiative. Sanelisiwe Tsela (Monitoring and Evaluation Consultant) Sane graduated at the University of Swaziland with a BA Social Science, majoring in Demography and Economics, and at the University of Pretoria with a Masters in Public Health – Monitoring and Evaluation track. She worked as a Monitoring and Evaluation Coordinator for the Swaziland National AIDS Council and was instrumental in the operationalisation of the Swaziland Programme Monitoring system and the delivery of different information products for the council. At HDA, Sanelisiwe serves as a Technical Panel Consultant coordinating Monitoring and Evaluation technical support needs for the Southern African region. Sarah Laurence (Research Analyst)Sarah trained as a physiotherapist at the University of the Witwatersrand. She has a Postgraduate Diploma in Management from Wits Business School and is currently studying towards a Masters in Public Health. Sarah has worked in both public and private hospitals, predominantly in the medical and surgical units. She has coordinated corporate wellness programmes and HIV prevention initiatives. Bertha Magoge (Programme Manager) Bertha holds an Honour’s degree in Social work from the University of Zimbabwe. Prior to joining HAD she has had extensive experience working within HIV/AIDS as well as Child Protection programmes. Her Social Work career for the past ten years has involved taking responsibility and leading teams involved in rights based needs assessments, training, monitoring, evaluation and impact assessments for diverse community programmes. She has coordinated and facilitated government as well as partner for nonprofit organizations in the implementation of community based support initiatives that respond to the HIV/AIDS pandemic. Bertha has grown immensely in the area of child focused approaches that emphasize the need for child participation as central in the delivery and or support to children’s quality programming. She has worked with various international organisations interacting with teams of diverse backgrounds. She is highly skilled in strategic planning, advocacy, documentation and managing Donor relations. Bertha values team work immensely and has great respect for humanity and diversity.

Fadzai Chikwava (Researcher) Fadzai holds a Masters Degree in Medical Statistics from the London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine. Fadzai brings a wealth of experience in monitoring and evaluation of HIV/AIDS programmes and managing both qualitative and quantitative research studies. She has more than 7 years experience in conducting market, social and academic research studies. She has worked in Eastern & Southern Africa and also the United Kingdom. Her previous employment includes Health Information Systems Programme, CDC, Population Services International, Databuild and Research International. Rene Diane (Monitoring and Evaluation Officer) Rene is a qualified staff nurse and has completed modules towards her BA in Social science through Nelson Mandela Metropolitan University and plans to further pursue completing through University of South Africa. Prior to joining HDA she has gained 6 years of experience in the HIV/ Aids training field and worked as a Monitoring and Evaluation assistant manager at Olive Leaf Foundation previously known as Hope worldwide South Africa. She has over 4 years experience in HIV/ Aids program implementation. She has qualifications in Training database implementation and management, VCT training and Competency based training skills. Jane Munyoro (M&E Officer) Jane has a diploma in Executive secretarial and is currently studying towards a BA Communication Science at the University of South Africa. Prior to joining HDA she was part of a team of social and behavioural science researchers at the Perinatal HIV Research at the Chris Hani Baragwanath Hospital in Soweto.
